I have probably uttered the phrase “I’m not from Georgia, I’m from Atlanta” over 1000 times in my life. I say that, because 1) I’m proud to be from Atlanta more often than not and 2) I’m embarrased to be from Georgia more often than not.
The travesty that was the Troy Davis decision has done a number on the emotions of America, but especially those closely affiliated with the state of Georgia–and especially those of us that love Atlanta, but are as much a part of the state as the members of that Parole Board that ended Troy’s life.
These are the thoughts of some of my wisest friends. Reading their thoughts and their actions reminds me why I’m constantly in awe of the people I grew up with.
Proud ATLiens, and maybe one day, proud Georgians.
