Watch The Throne in America’s Schools

I love my friends that have taken the call to teach right out of college. As somemone who made it through a few rounds of Teach for America before pulling out because I couldn’t commit to it, I admire everyone that has the courage to teach in their early 20s (and beyond)

In addition to being public servants, the stories that come from these classrooms are priceless. One of my favorites from a few days ago:

Yesterday: In my 8th grade writing class, this girl Vanessa in the front row keeps repeating the following lyric under her breath:

“What she order? Fish Fillet?

“WHAT SHE ORDER? FISH FILLET?”

Like, 8 or 9 times every 15 seconds or so. Finally I say, “Vanessa, we’re in English class, we’re not in Paris. Shh.”

She thinks about it for a second then yells out (in the middle of the silent activity) “OH SHIT “MR. X” KNOWS ABOUT MY SONG!”

Then I had to give her detention for profanity.
